- Heather grew up in Britain and now lives in Surrey with her husband. Her father served in the RAF and she attended 14 different schools in Britain and New Zealand growing up. She graduated in zoology from Bristol University. She has written many books including most recently Pollination Power. Her photographs appear in magazines and books all over the world and she has gotten many awards including the Doctorate of Science. She was also the President of the Royal Photographic Society from 1984-86.
- Heather is a wildlife photographer. She loves photographing mammals, plants and macro subjects. She gets really close to what she is taking a picture of, so you are able to see a lot of detail in her photos. She likes to document the natural world and especially loves taking pictures in China.
- Heather’s Philosophy has been “to provide images of the natural world that depict authentic behavior within the natural habitat…” (www.outdoorphotography.com). Having studied biology for many years has helped her do so. Heather also spreads her wisdom of photography. She has written many books and does lectures and workshops. She documents up close nature through her photography for the world. Heather tries to shine a light on some of the animals we don’t always recognize and see.
- Heather’s photography has influenced me to get really close to what I’m taking a picture of to capture a lot of detail like she does. I want to explore in nature to see what kinds of plants and animals I can find. Her photography has influenced me to take pictures at different times of day, like at sunset. I want to explore the world and take pictures of animals people don’t see every day. Also she has influenced me to try to capture the pure beauty and detail in plant life.

- For the leaf vein photo I got in very close to the leaf to capture a lot of detail like Heather did with her untitled leaf photo. In contrast in her photo you can't see every fine vein like you can in mine and the large vein is centered in hers. For the waterfall photos the focal point in both mine (Niagara waterfall) and hers (Untitled) is the rainbow with a large waterfall in the background. In contrast I got the whole waterfall to the bottom and a second waterfall in my photo (Niagara Waterfall) and Heather got part of the waterfall. Also the they are different waterfalls, so are constructed differently. In my dog eye photo I got very close to my subject and focused on capturing only the eye, like Heather did, and not the whole face. In contrast her photo is of a lizards' eye and mine is of a dogs' eye.
- In my photo of the leaf veins I held the leaf up to the sun light so that all the small veins would show up in the photo. I cropped the leaf photo so that your focused on the detail of the leaf more and so it would look more like Heather's photo. I went to Niagara falls when at crew Canadian Nationals and by mere chance my artist also had a photo of a waterfall with a rainbow in front of it. I took my photo so the rainbow is the focal point of the image. My dog was very sleepy and so I saw an opportunity snap a photo of her eye.
